AMERICA: Second Massive Wave Of Mortgage Defaults

Brasscheck TV – Now the real “fun” begins. In a boxing match, a good referee will take a boxer out who’s been hit so hard, he’s staggering. Why?

The potential damage from follow up blows to someone already in a weakened state is exponentially higher than from the first one. Unfortunately for the credit market, there’s no referee to call a time out.

ENVIRONMENT: Inside China’s Secret Toxic Unobtainium Mine

ENVIRONMENT: Who will pay for Amazon’s ‘Chernobyl’?

The Independent – A film released this week in Britain recounts the 16-year battle by Ecuadorians for damages against Chevron for oil pollution.

It’s barely eight in the morning and already the dusty oil town of Lago Agrio, on the fringes of the Ecuadorian Amazon, is sweltering. Its name means “sour lake” in Spanish, after the hometown of Texan oil company Texaco – a fitting name for an area of once-pristine rainforest that has been decimated in the pursuit of oil. So severe is the environmental damage here that experts have called it an “Amazon Chernobyl”.

EUROPE: Britain Ruled By 26 Illegal Brussels Sprouts

Telegraph – The EU’s Commissioners are still occupying their posts illegally, says Christopher Booker. So we are not to have a new Government until February 26. Furthermore, until that time all but one member of that Government is occupying their position illegally.

Of course, I am here referring not to the silly little joustings between Messrs Brown and Cameron, as they fight for the right to run our provincial government here in Britain. Our real government, in that it now makes most of our laws, resides in Brussels, and on January 1, following the coming into force of the European Constitution (aka the Lisbon Treaty), we were due to get a new set of European Commissioners. But with the exception of its president, José Manuel Barroso, none of the appointees can take up their posts until hearings have been completed in the European Parliament.

AFGHANISTAN: Jordanian Among Dead in Attack on CIA Base

Kawther Salaam – According to the CIA, a suicide attack last Wednesday at a base in eastern Afghanistan killed seven members of the US Central Intelligence Agency and wounded six others. CIA director Leon Panetta (a jew) stated that seven members of the CIA were killed last in an attack during last Wednesday 30 Dec. 2009 in Afghanistan. The American President, his family and their dog sent condolences to the families of the dead.

What Mr. Panetta did not mention was that among the dead was also a Jordanian CIA employee, Captain “Al-Sherif” Ali bin Zeid bin Shaker. In the same fashion, the Jordanian government also avoided to mention this in public, or even to confirm the presence of Jordanian troops in Afghanistan, because of the obvious embarrassment this would cause to the Jordanian regime. How shameful this incident is to the jordanian regime can be seen in the scant mention in the media of the death of this “holy” man (al-sherif means holy in Arabic).

AMERICA: Land of the Puppet People

Manuel Valenzuela – It oftentimes boggles the mind to try and understand the ease with which the Establishment can manipulate the American citizenry into another warmongering escapade, this time an ominous foray into the Persian lands of Iran, a nation rich in history, culture, location and most importantly to the Evil Empire, oil and gas.

Yet upon further inspection it is easy to comprehend this phenomenon, for we live, as Gore Vidal has labeled it, inside the United States of Amnesia, a country where all semblance of the yesterday becomes but a haze of blatant forgetfulness and convenient whitewash, a black hole of Alzheimer’s-like darkness from where no recollection of past lessons, mistakes, errors or history can be seen or touched.

AMERICA: Report Questions “Suicides” at Guantanamo

On the night of June 10, 2006, three Guantanamo detainees were found dead in their individual cells. Without any autopsy or investigation, U.S. military officials proclaimed “suicide by hanging” as the cause of each death, and immediately sought to exploit the episode as proof of the evil of the detainees. Admiral Harry Harris, the camp’s commander, said it showed “they have no regard for life” and that the suicides were “not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetric warfare aimed at us here at Guantanamo”; another official anonymously said that the suicides showed the victims were “committed jihadists [who] will do anything they can to advance their cause,” while another sneered that “it was a good PR move to draw attention.”

UPDATE: Scott Horton has an interview with Law Professor Mark Denbeaux, the primary author of the report, in which he elaborates on why the military’s claims and “investigation” are so suspect.
