Henry Makow investigates what is really happening in Afghanistan

ATTACK PAKISTAN ENVOY OMAR

As President Obama ponders whether to send more troops to Afghanistan, there is mounting evidence the Taliban is supported by the CIA. If correct, the Afghan war is a charade with a hidden agenda.

First, we have many reports that unmarked helicopters are ferrying the Taliban to targets, and relieving them when cornered.

“Just when the police and army managed to surround the Taliban in a village of Qala-e-Zaal district, we saw helicopters land with support teams,” an Afghan soldier said. “They managed to rescue their friends from our encirclement, and even to inflict defeat on the Afghan National Army.”

Drunken brawls, prostitutes, hazing and humiliation, taking vodka shots out of buttcracks — no, the perpetrators of these Animal House-like antics aren’t some depraved frat brothers. They are the private security contractors guarding Camp Sullivan, otherwise known as the US Embassy in Kabul.

These allegations, and many more, are contained in a letter sent to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday by the Project on Government Oversight, which has been investigating the embassy security contract held by ArmorGroup North America (a subsidiary of Wackenhut, which is in turn owned by the security behemoth G4S). The contractor was the subject of a congressional probe earlier this summer that found serious lapses in the company’s handling of the embassy security contract, which internal State Department documents said left the embassy compound “in jeopardy.” Nevertheless, the government opted to extend the company’s 5-year, $189 million contract for another year.

Their financial problems are increased when regiments are sent overseas on tour as spouses are burdened with extra expenses such as childcare and larger phone bills.

The charity Foodbank, based in Salisbury, Wiltshire, has handed out hundreds of food parcels to struggling military families in the past three years.

The charity’s network manager, Jeremy Ravn, told The Sun newspaper that wives and families resorted to the parcels when they were hit by unexpected expenses.

“There is always the cost of extra child care and travel and bigger phone bills,” he said. “But because the lower ranks are not paid well, often just a large bill or a hiccup in the pay system is enough to push them over the edge.

“Speaking as an ex-soldier, it is very distressing to see forces people in this state. It is heartbreaking when you see them come in. But it’s nice to be able to help them immediately.”

Shadow Defence Secretary Liam Fox said the news was an “outrage”.

How robot drones revolutionized the face of warfare

27 July 2009 | CNN | Nic Robertson

USAF: Drones of Death

Barely an hour’s drive from the casinos of Las Vegas, a group of unassuming buildings have become as important as the trenches were to WWI. The big difference? Today’s warriors are fighting without getting in harm’s way, using drones to attack targets in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

U.S. Air Force fighter pilot Major Morgan Andrews is one such combatant. He kisses his wife goodbye, drives to Creech, a tiny desert air force base in Nevada, and within minutes could be killing insurgents on the other side of the world.

COMMENT: Or killing innocent civilians at wedding parties as we have seen so often.
